While in Washington
DC, Minnesota providers visited members of our congressional
delegation to better inform them about issues that are impacting
the residential support services in Minnesota. One topic
covered was our hope that they would sign on in their support of
the Direct Support Professional Fairness and Security Act of
2005. (H.R.1264) This proposed legislation addresses the fact
that as Baby Boomers age, the need for and shortage of these
workers will create a huge problem in meeting the needs of
persons who are aging or have disabilities.
So far, in Minnesota, Representatives Collin Peterson and James
Oberstar have both signed on as co-sponsors.

The Fall Potluck/Bonfire
was held at 7-mile creek. We had a really good turn out, a
little over 70 people, and that was surprising 'cause right
about the time it was supposed to start…
it started raining.
But we got the fire going and then the rain stopped. It was
fun!

A Thank You
Event was held on October 26th
in recognition of contributions by staff and individuals served
during Community Enrichment Week
and throughout the rest of the year. The event began with an
excellent meal served by HMC dietary staff and ended with music
provided by
Kern Brothers Entertainment. Thank you to everyone who
contributed to ECHO Food Shelf and the Minneopa Seed Gathering
Project.
You do make a difference in other people’s lives! |
